Writing Tips
The most important part related to applying for a job
is ensuring that your CV is more than adequate. You
might be the best suited person to the job, but if that
isn’t proven in your CV, you can guarantee that
yours will be the first one to go in the bin. Taking
care and effort will ensure that your CV is as good
as or better than everyone else applying for a position,
and will give you a good chance of getting an interview.
Something that seems to be ever more common in CV
writing is misleading the employee. If you choose to
lie in your CV then it just shows a lack of confidence.
You are not confident that you will get the job without
making yourself look better. Having this attitude will
ensure that you won’t get the job, as it will
be portrayed to the employer quite literally in the
interview anyway.
A lot of people don’t bother to add a cover
letter. This is a huge mistake. This is the icing on
the cake that will make your CV stand out from the rest.
In this you will give yourself the chance to impress
your employer explaining why you want the job, why you
like their company and why you are suited to the job.
Sometimes, employers take this part of the CV as the
most important part, as it is interesting to see what
people write.
Don’t make your CV boring. Employers want to
employee people and don’t want to read essays.
If you have something to say either briefly write it
or make bullet points. Make it sharp, concise and straight
to the point! If you fail to do so, the chances are
it will go straight in the bin!
Make sure your document is laid out professional on
quality paper. Make it look like you have spent time
formatting the document to look professional and that
you do truly care about the position that you are applying
for. You can always spend to much time writing a CV
and never enough!
Find your unique selling point that relates to the
position. This means that you have to find something
that you don’t think any other candidate offers.
This doesn’t mean ‘I am friendly and learn
quickly’. A relevant life experience could set
your CV aside from literally hundreds of other applicants
and get you the job of your dreams!
