Job Search Tips
for College Students
If you are at college the chances are that you have
a lot of spare time on your hands. Of course, you want
to spend most of this time going out and spending time
with your friends and family. The problem is, going
to see a movie, going out for a bite to eat or days
at theme parks all cost a lot of money. So it is only
natural that you’ll be looking for find a secure
job to earn an income to support yourself. The current
economic climate doesn’t really support your decision,
so it can be extremely difficult to find a job. Here
are some pointers that will help you find a job quickly
and easily on the internet.
The best option is to ditch the high street and use
job searching websites online. Often they will have
a good range of jobs that are available and all within
a reasonable distance of your home. Most sites will
offer you the ability to narrow down the search to a
specific job type, location or level of experience.
Remember you’ll also have to specify that you
are looking for a part time position so that it does
not interfere with your studies.
Registering with a range of job searching websites
will give you better coverage. A lot of the times these
job sites are owned by recruitment agencies. This may
not mean anything to you, but it does have great significance.
The likelihood is that you don’t have and have
never written a resume in your life. These guys get
commission if you get employed, so they’ll spend
their time making sure your resume is extremely good
and reflects on you well as a person.
Remember that submitting your resume to just one or
two jobs sites is a poor effort. Aim to submit your
resume to at least 10 job sites. Also, ensure that you
sign up to the sites that pull listings from multiple
sites. This means you’ll be looking at maybe 200+
job postings that have been pulled from 10-20 sites
at one time. This will save you a lot of effort and
time, not to mention the fact that you are more likely
to get employed!
A good tip that will help you know how popular a site
is is how often the recruiters post. If they are posting
daily, the chances are you’ll have some success.
If new job postings arrive every 1-2 weeks or longer,
it is probably worth moving onto the next site!
