Tips for Effective
Job Searching
The current economic climate means that more and more
companies are trying to get rid of employee, rather
than taking them onboard. This could put you at an immediate
disadvantage if you have recently job, or are simply
looking for a change in your career. Of course, there
are plenty of places to that are classed as effective
job searching, but do you know where to go!?
Don’t just assume that the top sites on Google
are the ones where you’ll find an employer. In
fact, some of small, niche and personal sites are actually
a lot better than the bigger ones. That being said,
it would be a good idea for sign up to a range of job
sites, rather than searching on a single portal.
There are a couple of sites that get unique results.
These might seem like the best ones at first, but they
are not! What you want in an ideal world is a site that
drags postings from a range of sites. This means you’ll
have access to a large range of job postings, rather
than a select few. You’ll save yourself a lot
of time and put yourself in a better position of actually
getting employed!
It might seem like uploading your resume to each individual
site is a painstakingly slow process. There are plenty
of sites where you can actually avoid posting your resume.
My advice would be to delete them straight away. No
employer will both to look twice at you if you have
not taken the time and effort to upload a basic CV.
It would be like you traveling 100kms to view a car,
without knowing a price, or the quality of the vehicle
– you just simply would not do it!
Remember that you want to make the process as easy
as humanely possible. This means taking time to shortlist
the good sites is a priority. Junk the sites that don’t
allow you to break job listings down into niches. Also,
if the search facility allows you to specify a location,
your years of experience and the position in the company,
then they are definitely the ones that you should be
keeping. Recruitment agencies often set up these job
searching facilities, so ask them for advice if you
are struggling. They are usually available 5 days a
week and can help with anything from listing details
right through to helping you produce a good resume.
Good luck with your job search!
