Where to Look For
Job Openings
It is becoming harder and harder to find a job these
days. A lot of companies are finding that they will
need to start cutting staff; otherwise they will be
a victim of the recent recession. Of course, that does
not bode well for us, the employees. Job centers have
less and less jobs available, but there is an answer!
Luckily, the internet is full of useful hints and tips
to help you find a job. Of course, online job searching
websites are potentially the best place to find openings,
but they need to be handled with care to ensure you
don’t end up wasting your time.
First of all you need to be able to shortlist the
sites you want to use. A minimum of 5 websites but a
maximum of 10 would be a great start. You don’t
want to limit the potential to find an opening, but
you don’t want to have too much going at one time.
Some sites will have a range of specific search criteria
and these are the only ones you should be using. This
usually includes the likes of location, salary and experience
needed for the job opening that is listed. If it doesn’t
have all of the above then it is lacking in information
and likely to be a waste of time.
The next thing to look for is a resume uploading service.
A lot of employers will scatter their job openings around
a few sites. They’ll get hundreds of replies,
but only the minority will send a CV. Think of it like
this, would you employee someone that is offering you
their full background, or someone that is simply offering
you their name and address!?
Make sure you know exactly what you are applying for.
A lot of job postings seem to lack in information. If
the employer has not taken the time to explain exactly
what they are offering and why, then it will be a waste
of time. The chances are that they wont even bother
to get back to you.
Finally, make sure you look for the date that the
job was posted. Most jobs are filled within about 2-3
weeks, so anything after this will probably be a lost
cause. A lot of sites leave the adds on for as long
as 6 months, so they might look jam packed with job
openings, but most are void!
